Soup /Suppe

The great fall weather asks for soup!
I have never been a huge fan of soup, probably because we had a lot of soup when I was a kid, but as I get older I miss some of those soups and have also found a few that I really like.
This time I made Potato Leek soup.
I really like leeks and could have eaten them just cooked in butter ,but that was not the goal.
Not sure if anyone is interested, but here is the easy recipe for the soup from one of my German cook books:
This recipe is for 4 people
1kg(2 lbs) potatoes
300gr(10 oz) Leeks(about 2 stalks)
2 tbsp butter
1 liter(4 cups) of chicken or vegetable stock
salt,pepper
ttsp. sour cream or creme fraiche
3 oz bacon ,4 wiener(optional)
1.Wash potatoes, peel and cut into small cubes
Clean leeks thoroughly and cut into thin rings
2.Melt butter in a pot and fry leeks in it for short time until they are soft
Remove about 3 tbsp for later
3. Poor stock into the pot and add the potatoes. Let simmer for 15 minutes at medium heat
If you are going to use bacon, cut bacon in small bits and fry until crisp.
Dry on paper towel to remove excess fat.
If you want to use wieners, you can heat them separately or in the soup
4.When potatoes are soft, remove pot from stove and use handheld blender to puree the soup.
Salt and pepper to taste,
Mix in the sour cream or creme fraiche
Eat with the extra leeks and bacon bits.
Enjoy!
Guten Appetit!

I forgot the leeks and bacon bits in this picture.  :0)

The day started with this gorgeous sky!

All I could say was "WOW!!!"
"WOW!!!!"

Then the mailman brought me the parcel my sister send and look at all the beautiful things...

Guckt mal was da alles Schoenes 'drinn war.....

Lots of things with lovely dots on pink and red from Harry& Sally

Also this beautiful Green Gate bowl.
Guess what I will be using for my breakfast tomorrow...haha :)
Did I mention that I LOVE Green Gate?
Ratet mal was ich morgen fuer mein Fruehstueck benutzen werde...haha :)

These are things that I still have to have from Germany.
I can do without a lot, but this type of salat dressings, these liquorice and German gummy bears are a must. (They make a great parcel filler too).
I can get the gummy bears from this company over here, but they are different ,not made in Germany, not the same.
Hey, but we can get a bunch of the other selections of that company so that is already an improvement .

These magazines are so beautiful and they have such great articles ..

Man, when I read these magazines and see the pictures it makes me want to live in the country again sooo bad. *sigh*

After I unpacked my parcel, I had delicious leftover quiche from yesterday for lunch .
What a great day this was.
Was fuer ein toller Tag.

:0)
Have a wonderful day!
Ich wuensch euch einen wunderschoenen Tag!

Cokkies...Done!/ Kekse ......fertig!

Christmas without our favorite cookies would not be the same, so I gathered all the ingredience ...

Weihnachten waere nicht Weihnachten ohne selbstgebackene Kekse.

Ich habe also die Zutaten zusammengetragen

and my favorite mixer, and got to work.

meinen geliebten Mixer angeschmissen und los ging's.

Most of the cookies will be enjoyed here , but some go to friends and neighbors.

Have a wonderful day!
Ich wuensche euch einen schoenen Tag!

New to me/ Neu für mich

Our youngest son and I have tried a few fruits that we didn't know before.
I figured we should try something that we are not familiar with and he was all for it.
Somehow it was weird, because he's a bit picky about eating.
Today we got a Dragon Fruit. Let me tell you I was shocked about it's price.
4.99$ for one!! Wow!!
I never expected the look on the inside of the fruit. Somehow it's very pretty I think.
Does that justify the price??? No!!
As for taste.... It's ok, kind of like Kiwi without the acidity, but nothing that makes me want to get more of them.

On Friday we bought a Cactus Pear.
(Sorry I forgot to take a pic with the skin)
That was interesting as well.
My son and I both had some prickly on our hand by the time we left the store.
Wish I would have know that that can happen....
At home I googled the"How to eat.." to make sure I do it right.
We both had a try , but the many hard seeds are really nasty. I guess if you strain them out it might be ok to eat.
The taste was somewhat boring as well.
The color is great, but otherwise a bit disappointing.
What will we try next??

More decorations and baking

Today, my famous yet never ending "to do" list showed :
- Make more cookies
So, good mom that I am, I made another 2 recipes
Schoko-Spritzgebaeck and Zitronensterne
(Chocolate shortbread cookies and lemon stars)
First I have to salute my Kitchen Aid!
What a great piece of kitchen machinery!!
I LOVE IT!
I had dreamed of getting one for many years, and trust me I went through countless hand mixer in my life. Then, when we moved down here I got one. Super cheap through a friend, just because the KA is green. Well ,I couldn't care less if it had yellow dots too. She works wonderful and that's what matters to me.
So here now some pics of the work that was done today...

Also as promised some more pictures of Christmas deco from around the house.

This little cutie and the Froebel star were made by my talented sister Steffi

I made these little light bulb snowmen a few years ago.

We brought these stars last year from our Christmas visit to my family in Germany.

Love the rustic snowflake.....

...and this lantern.

Yes, another deer! :0)
And here my favorite snowman.
More pics tomorrow......

Baking Cookies....

It frustrates me with no end that I'm always behind in everything.
I always hope to get a better grip on everything, but what can I say? It still needs work......
I found some time to do some of my baking though.

Since I stopped taking custom orders and sold all my Mini Babies, I can get into all the

Christmas prep as well.

All my cookies are from German recipes and each of my boys gets to pick what he would like .

Today I made 2 types of cookies.

Vanilla Kipfel
and Husaren Krapferln

Sunday again?

I never get used to how time flies.
Wasn't it just Sunday? How can it be Sunday already again????? Where did the week go?????
I'm so busy making dolls for custom orders and my stores , trying to make a few Christmas gifts and keep the rest of our life running smoothly, that in no time another day has gone by. My sewing table is full of fabrics for projects that have to wait a little longer now.
I had plans to sell on a local market in a few weeks, but it doesn't look good .
I just don't have enough time to make extra dolls for the market. Oh well, I can always catch the next one.....
In other news....
I tried another dough receipt from the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes book. This time I used the Brioche dough to make cinnamon buns.

The dough is from the book and I made the rest like we made it in the bakery I used to work .

They turned out great and are a hit with the boys !!
Well it's back to work for me now.
Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!
