Where I work/ Wo ich arbeite

Today I would like to show you where I work most of the time.

Heute moechte ich euch mal zeigen wo ich meistens arbeite.

This is my sewing corner in our bedroom. It's a huge bedroom and since we don't have an extra room that I could use, this works just fine!

Dies ist meine Naehecke in unserem Schlafzimmer. Das Schlafzimmer ist riesig und da wir keine extra Zimmer haben das ich dafuer benutzen koennte, ist das die beste Loesung

This side has more fabrics, mostly velours . I have different baskets for the different shops that I have , otherwise I can't keep track what is listed where.

The old Mason jars on top of the shelf have ribbons in them.

Auf dieser Seite sind meine Nickystoffe. In dem Regal habe ich Koerbe fuer die verschiedenen Onlineshops die ich habe, damit ich weiss was wo gelistet ist.

In den alten Einmachglaesern auf dem Regal habe ich einige meiner Baender.

This tower has differnt wool that I use, wool felt and some doll parts and skin fabrics.

In diesen Schubladen befinden sich die verschiedenen Wollarten die ich benutze, Wollfilz , Puppenteile und Hautstoffe

This is what I usually have in our livingroom. Lots of items to essemble and a selection of things that I need for it. Tread, needles, pins, crochet hooks, siccors and so on.

Diese Sachen habe ich normalerweise im Wohnzimmer. Jede Menge Sachen die mit der Hand genaeht werden muessen und was ich dazu brauche. eine Auswahl von Naehgarn in verschiedenen Farben, Nadeln, Stecknadeln, Haeckelhaken, Scheren und so weiter.

Fix it! / Reparieren!

We got ourselves a ping-pong table for Christmas.

Erinnert ihr euch?

Wir hatten uns doch einen Tischtennistisch zu Weihnachten geschenkt.

It has to be outside on the patio because we don't have room in the garage and don't have a basement. Well it works out well, just when it rains and is windy, the one side of the table gets hit with a few drops.
So when we had the last rainstorm here, I thought : Well I fold it up and wheel it to the wall, no problem. I did that before.

It didn't went as planned!

When I had the one side up and started to lift the other side up, the bottom part of the table just buckled and it laid on the ground.

All the wood n this table is press board and so a whole bunch of screws ripped out of the wood.

Now we are not people that just go and buy a new one.

Der Tisch steht auf unserer Terrasse, weil wir keinen Platz in der Garage haben und einen Keller haben wir auch nicht. Ist auch kein Problem soweit, nur wenn es regnet und windig ist dann fallen manchmal ein paar Tropfen auf die eine Seite vom Tisch.

Beim letzten Regensturm wollte ich nun den Tisch zusammenklappen und an die Wand rollen. Das hab ich vorher schon mal gemacht. Leider hat es nicht so geklappt wie es sollte!

Nachdem ich die eine Seite bereits hochgeklappt hatte und dabei war die andere Seite hochzuklappen, ist das Untergestell einfach weggesackt und der ganze Tisch lag auf dem Boden!!
Der Tisch ist aus Pressholz gemacht und so sind eine menge der Schrauben einfach auch gerissen.

Nun sind wir keine Leute die einfach losrennen und was Neues kaufen.

A: why buy one if this one can be fixed

A: Warum was Neues kaufen wenn man es reparieren kann

B: we don't have stacks of money laying around to replace it and even if we had I don't think we would run out and do it anyway

B: Wir haben keine Geldstapel 'rumliegen und selbst wenn wir es haetten, wuerden wir dennoch nicht losrennen um was Neues zu kaufen!
C: I feel very strongly about that we waste already enough things

C: Ich glaube fest daran das wir eh schon zuviel Zeug wegschmeissen!!

Last Friday I saw a post on maya*made that inspired me to post about something that I fixed.

Letzte Woche habe ich einen Post bei maya*made gesehen der mich inspiriert hat auch etwas zu zeigen das ich repariert habe!

Here it is...

Here you see the board that had all screws ripped out and the screws

that ripped out of the table itself.

Hier seht ihr das Brett aus dem alle Schrauben rausgerissen sind und die Klemmen die ebenfalls ausgerissen sind

I replaced the board with a pine broad instead of the press board

Ich habe das Brett mit einem Kieferholzbrett ersetzt

and moved the clamps over a bit to reattach them to the table top

und die Klemmen habe ich nur etwas versetzt und wieder angeschraubt.

Tataaaaa.... just like new!!!

Total cost: under 10$

Buying a new one 199$

Well that works for me!!!

An important walk /Eine wichtige Sache

On Saturday we, my husband ,our youngest son and I, joint the local CROP walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty ) against hunger that is held all over the US at different times during the year. CROP collects food (peanut butter and other non perishable food items) as well as money collected from sponsors of the walk to help people in need locally and around the world.

Am letzten Samstag haben wir, mein Mann, unser jüngster Sohn und ich, an einem CROP Walk teilgenommen. Um es kurz zu erklären…CROP ist Zweig des Welt Kirchen Service der gegen Hunger, hier Vorort und in der Welt kämpft. Durch Sponsoren und Teilnehmer werden Gelder und Lebensmittel an dem Tag des Laufs gesammelt

The Crop walk had been organized in this town by the Grace Presbyterian Church. We walked on a 6 mile /10 km route around one of the Cities older established neighborhoods.

Die Strecke führte durch einen der schönen älteren etablierten Stadtteile dieser Stadt .

The weather was great. Cool, somewhat windy, but dry, just perfect for this event.

Bei uns hier war die Strecke 10 km lang, vobei man allerdings auch viel kürzere Strecken gehen konnte.Das Wetter war gerade richtig! Sonnig, kühl und windig, aber trocken.

I feel very strongly about doing things like this. We can all do a little bit to help people around us. It doesn’t have to involve a lot of time or money. I believe that today, more then ever we have to stop thinking only about how we are doing and what we want and need and think about others that are less fortunate. Everybody has an excuse for why the can’t help others, but there are so many things you can do that take so little. In every town there are Organizations that need help .Your help! Please take a moment and see what you can do for your fellow men/woman or child!

Ich finde diese Art von Veranstaltungen sehr wichtig! Wir können alle einen kleinen Beitrag leisten damit anderen Menschen, denen es nicht so gut geht, geholfen werden kann. Das muss nicht heissen das man viel Zeit und Geld darauf verwendet. Jedes bischen hilft und wenn man mal gesehen hat wie sehr selbst kleine Dinge einen riesen Unterschied und Erleichterung bringen können, dann ist es eigentlich gar keine Frage mehr ob man mal nicht nur an sich selber denkt. In jeder Stadt gibt es viele Organizationen die Hilfe brauchen können. Eure Hilfe! Sei es ein paar Stunden Eurer Zeit, Lebensmittel, Hygieneartikel , Textielien usw.
Ich bitte Euch mal zu überlegen ob Ihr nicht auch etwas für Eure Mitmenschen tun könnt!

The last lecture...

The world lost a very inspiring man.

Professor Randy Pausch died yesterday of complications from pancreatic cancer.




I heard about him and The last lecture he gave at Carnegie Mellon where he taught, a few month ago and it moved and inspired me immensely, as I'm sure it has many, many people around the world. His advise on how to reach your goals and his lessons learned are both funny and powerful.

What a great lecture.....
